Antonio Oñate was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2002 and was already showing signs of cirrhosis. In 2006, he underwent 48 weeks of treatment with pegylated interferon, achieving a sustained virological response. His liver is now free of fibrosis. Since 2006, he has been involved in advocacy activities with patient groups and, through his foundation in 2013, has been a member of the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) since that year. He maintains liver health advocacy activities in Mexico, Latin America, and around the world. He currently serves as the WHA’s representative to the Pan American Health Organization.
