The World Hepatitis Alliance, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination (CGHE), Medicines Patent Pool and Infectious Disease Alliance, with technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO), are co-hosting a special event at the Seventy-eighth World Health Assembly.

The session will explore the connection between communicable diseases and cancer, and discover how the growing mortality from cancer and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) can be addressed through better integration. 

NCDs and communicable diseases are inextricably linked, but the connection is often overlooked. Many deaths could be averted by preventing the communicable diseases that lead to NCDs like cancer.

As part of the session, the World Hepatitis Alliance will launch a white paper on liver cancer and chronic hepatitis. This sets out a series of policy recommendations that could be transformative in the prevention and early diagnosis of liver cancer.
