Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the support of people
in distress, and threatened by conflict, poverty, or other turmoil. With its headquarters in Japan, PWJ is
operational in many parts of the world. Since supporting a program that invited researchers and representatives of patient organizations from Burkina Faso to Japan in 2023, Peace Winds Japan has been developing its hepatitis activities. The project leader, Nobuyuki Harita, previously worked for nine years with the legal team and plaintiffs’ group in Japan’s hepatitis B lawsuit.
In 2023, PWJ donated a non-invasive liver fibrosis assessment device, FibroScan, to Burkina Faso. Since then, the organization has continued to support hepatitis testing campaigns and, in collaboration with local NGOs, has developed awareness materials in a picture-story-show format (kamishibai) based on the country’s official hepatitis awareness messages.
