Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium

The Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) is a national membership network of non-profit, civil society, and faith-based organisations involved or having interest in HIV/AIDs activities within Kenya. KANCO was established in 1990. KANCO’s vision is a Kenyan society free of HIV & AIDS and TB while its mission is to provide leadership, promote collaboration and enhance capacity among Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other stakeholders to respond to HIV & AIDS and TB at the community level. The goal of the consortium is to provide leadership among CSOs in contribution towards realization of universal access targets in Kenya which is to be achieved through three overarching strategic objectives.

Some of their hepatitis related activities are:

1. Community-Led Hepatitis Advocacy
   KANCO has been instrumental in mobilizing community-based efforts to raise awareness about hepatitis. It has supported the formation of the Hepatitis Advocacy Group, which focuses on amplifying voices to promote hepatitis elimination in Kenya.
   2. Integration of Hepatitis Services into Harm Reduction Programs
   Recognizing the high prevalence of Hepatitis C among people who inject drugs (PWID), KANCO has advocated for the integration of hepatitis services into existing harm reduction programs. This approach aims to provide comprehensive care, including screening and treatment, to vulnerable populations.
   3. Policy Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement
   KANCO engage in policy advocacy to influence national health strategies related to hepatitis. KANCO has worked collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and implement policies that support hepatitis prevention and control efforts across the country.
