The Institute for Human Development (IpDH) in Bolivia has implemented several hepatitis-related initiatives, primarily in the prevention, diagnosis, and care of hepatitis B and C. While the IpDH’s focus during its initial years was HIV, its work with vulnerable populations led us to consider hepatitis as a topic of attention.
During International Testing Week, in which the IpDH participates, free screening tests for hepatitis B and C were included. Their regular health services also offer rapid diagnosis for hepatitis B and C. If the tests are reactive, they refer and link patients to treatment within the Bolivian public system. Individualized support is provided by peer educators. Since 2015, the IpDH has been part of international networks such as Coalition Plus and Right Plus, which are involved in the community response to HIV and viral hepatitis globally.
They are looking into incorporating hepatitis training into our health personnel training activities.
