About Hepatitis Advocates Kenya

KHAD was found in 2024 by Mercy Nyakowa, who through her work interacted with people who had various access barriers to Hepatitis testing and treatment. In addition most of the cases were referred by doctors who had limited knowledge on management of the disease. At that time, the WHO had just released revised guidelines on management of Hepatitis and the country was streamlining the program. Though there was effective treatment for hepatitis there was no central source for reliable information about the virus.

Their activities include:

  • Advocacy – They bring the voices of Persons living with and those affected by VH
  • Support- Provide Hepatitis and other health services to people living with or at risk of VH, especially children women, youth and key populations with access barriers
  • Influence policy – They advocate for policies to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Hepatitis
  • Empower- Advocate for human rights for vulnerable persons living with Hepatitis
  • Knowledge exchange-Apply innovative approaches to improve hepatitis related services
  • Promote stronger accountability for effective Hepatitis responses for impact.
  • Community Mobilization, Education, Support & Navigation, Data Feedback
