Registered in 2001, the Foundation has been operating in the field of hepatitis for almost 14 years (they have been also supporting patients with leukaemia and multiple sclerosis.) From the very beginning, all activities have been conducted on social media under the name “Mister Liver”. Their employee Sebastian Gawlik is responsible for all activities in this area. He learned about HCV infection in 2008 and was cured in 2015 thanks to clinical trials. During this time, they conducted workshops for patients, families, doctors, and various social campaigns on social media. For several years, they have been focusing strongly on the WHO strategy and the elimination of HCV by 2030. Unfortunately, Poland is not coping with this well and they will achieve this goal around 2050. Due to the fact that anti-HCV tests are not widely available, they conduct free testing campaigns. They are still fighting for universal availability of diagnostics in this area. They are the initiator of a very important government health policy program in Poland for the treatment of incarcerated prisoners in penitentiary facilities. The needs in this area are enormous, because before the program was created, only a few inmates could be treated each year. The government program is just starting and will provide 1,700 therapies. They are constantly planning to expand anti-HCV testing points within their organization #time is chasing us.
They are currently involved in the implementation of the government’s health policy program for the treatment of inmates in penitentiary facilities, where we are responsible for training prison staff, preparing educational materials for inmates and providing anti-HCV tests. They estimate that during the entire project approximately 100,000 people will have an anti-HCV test performed.
