Established in 1995 and officially recognised in 2000, Acção de Solidariedade e Saúde Comunitária – A.S.S.C is a non-governmental organisation that works in preventive and curative health and in advocacy for the defence of human rights. Their activities in the hepatitis field include:
• Awareness campaign among communities (female sex workers, pregnant women)
• Monitoring of positive cases
• Advocacy and lobbying
According to a study of the seroprevalence of Hepatitis B that was carried out between 2014 and 2021, in pregnant women undergoing prenatal consultations, a prevalence of:
– 84% of pregnant women in prenatal consultations
– 84% in Blood Donors
– 12% for Long-distance Truck Drivers
– 14% in Female Sex Workers
6,000 hospital cases of Hepatitis B, compiled by INLS – National Institute for the Fight against AIDS in 18 provinces, which characterises Angola as a place of high prevalence. ASSC are awaiting the results of the study on the seroprevalence of hepatitis B in the sexually active population through the multiple and health indicators survey carried out in 2024 so they can plan more activities combating the viral hepatitis.
