Assisting WHO in the development of a global strategy

World Health Organization Member States have urged WHO to develop a comprehensive global strategy on hepatitis. To assist in the development of this, the World Hepatitis Alliance attended a WHO Expert Consultation in December.

The new resolution on viral hepatitis that was adopted unanimously at the World Health Assembly in 2014 calls on the World Health Organization to develop and implement a comprehensive global strategy on hepatitis that will support efforts for prevention, diagnosis and treatment. In preparation for this, a WHO Expert Consultation was organised to examine the feasibility of and strategies needed for the elimination of hepatitis B and C. The Alliance was invited to attend and offer our knowledge and experience to aid the process of developing the strategy. There is hope that this will also lead to setting global targets on hepatitis elimination.
