WHO Hepatitis B guidelines
WHO hosted a meeting of experts in Geneva to deliberate on the first ever guidelines on the testing, care and treatment of hepatitis B, principally aimed at the resource-constrained countries. The Alliance took part to represent the community of people living with hepatitis B around the world. One of the challenges in developing the guidelines is the absence of strong evidence, partly because many of the outcomes, such as reduction in liver cancer, can only be seen in the long term. The guidelines are due to be published before the end of this year and will be an important guide to countries on who to treat, when to treat and with what drugs.
