Petar

My name is Petar, I am 45 years old. I live in Croatia, a small, lovely country in the south-east Europe. I found out that I have hepatitis B (HBV) approx. 14 years ago during a routine check-up. How did I get it...

Live and let die

Yesterday I had a though conversation with somebody who has HBV and who became resistant to old drugs.
It’s a very difficult situation. As I said, he become resistant to old drugs and new drugs that could help him are still not registered in my country. The only option for him is to buy drugs which means that this solution is not an option – more than 500 Euros per month is a price that very few people can afford here and he is certainly not among them.
So, what advice could I give him? Eat healthy food with lots of vegetables and fruits? Avoid alcohol? He already knows that.
To make situation worse, he searched for help in “alternative” medicine. Why quotes? Because he is taking some unknown products without any control. Don’t get me wrong, I support alternative medicine when it passes any clinical trials like this one. But seems to me that his “alternative” medicine did not pass any tests and it claims to do “miracle cures”. I found out that it is even officially forbidden in the USA.
Is this the worst? Unfortunately, not. He told me that he did not inform his doctor about this treatment. So, I spent the rest of the conversation trying to persuade him to inform his doctor.
Come on people, there is a plenty of products that can ease your fight with hepatitis but use them carefully and always, I mean ALWAYS tell your doctor about any product that you are using and ask him for advice.

I almost forgot; one of the sellers of “alternative medicine” tried to sell me a potion with some herbs that will 100% regenerate my liver. When I closely read the label I found out that it contains 50% of alcohol. Nice way to destroy a liver! Alternative medicine? More like an alternative way of making money. Selling crap and profiting on desperation of the ill -- looks to me that the title of this blog is their motto.
