‘Am I Number 12?’ Campaign
Shockingly one in 12 people worldwide is living with either chronic hepatitis B or C. While this is far higher than the prevalence of HIV or any cancer, awareness is inexplicably low and the majority of those infected are unaware.
In 2008 the World Hepatitis Alliance launched the global awareness raising campaign programme ‘Am I Number 12?’ to communicate the fact that one in 12 people worldwide is living with either chronic hepatitis B or C, and to encourage people to question themselves (rather than stigmatise others) and to get tested if they think they could be at risk. The campaign has been a huge success and continues to be used by hundreds of patient groups around the world.
